Over the past decade, there has been quite an increase in the representation of
queer characters in movies and shows, many of these characters often have sad
and difficult stories, (eg: characters like Karan from Made in Heaven, Rue from
Euphoria, Adam from All of us strangers, Dilton from Archies) These portrayals
adhere to the ""miserable gay"" trope, wherein the character's arc is
characterized by sadness, desolation, and most times violence, rarely do queer
stories witness narratives wherein these characters are granted the same joyful,
triumphant endings that are often reserved for straight characters
